This past weekend was the inaugural Desert Classic race held at Hobby Action RC Raceway in Arizona. Larry Tom and his staff truly have made an amazing facility with everything a racer could want.
The layout for the race was brand new and it was a bit different than the normal track surface. The grip was a lot lower than you would expect from an indoor track, there was clay in the surface but also a lot of aggregate as well, that would keep coming to the surface as the cars went around the track. For me it was quite challenging as well as for many others but it was a pleasant change from what seems to be the norm these days of carpet and super high clay, more what I would call real off-road dirt racing.
2017 Dirt Nitro Challenge was just that, a challenge. The layout was the best that it has been in years, I felt that the track was more what I remember the DNC being in the past. Coming to this race with entirely new platforms of cars, I knew would be difficult but testing before the race gave me the confidence that I would be able to compete and do well.
The ElectroShot comes from the mind of Ty Tessmann and is designed to perform just like a Hole Shot 2.0 while lasting significantly longer. As the name suggests, the ElectroShot is combination of Pro-Line’s Electron and Hole Shot tread designs with connected bars in the center where the heaviest tire wear occurs and Hole Shot pins everywhere else for maximum traction.
Connected bar-type tires like Pro-Line’s new Positron have become the new standard for 1:10 buggy race tires but pins are still the king of the 1:8 Off-Road. The ElectroShot begins to bridge that gap and test the waters with a hybrid Bar and Pin tire. Racers who have tried the ElectroShot say that it feels similar to a HoleShot but has even better forward grip! Be the first to try out the future of 1:8 Race Tire Design with Pro-Line’s new ElectroShot!
This past weekend was the 23rd running of the Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions held at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, CA. I have attended this race a few times and normally the format is 2WD first and then 4WD but this year they reversed the order starting with 4WD and as usual had practice for both classes before the racing started.
My XB4’17 and my XB2’17 setups were really good right from the start with the setups that we had tested the previous week, in practice my 4wd had the fastest lap and my 2WD was second fastest to Maifield by 4/100 of a second.
The 2017 R/C Excitement “Snowball” is in the books. This race is a two day event with stock running day one, and modified classes running on day two. This years course was very challenging and technical, and required patience. We ran modified 2wd and 4wd this year we were able to get 3 rounds of qualifying in.
This past Saturday I attended the 1st race of the Grass Roots Series at Thunder Alley RC Raceway in Beaumont, CA. There were 148 entries for this 1 day race, this was the first time in awhile that the Californian’s could get on a track to race due to the rain they have had. The track was a lot of fun, lots of big jumps and a technical layout. The track started out with some muddy spots and remained wet throughout the day, due to the moisture in the track it developed a lot of ruts and bumps so at times it was difficult to navigate. Wow, what another incredible day for Team Pro-Line! Thursday was my fifth straight day of being at the track and Daniel’s 7th, so we are starting to feel the effects of long days out in the sun, wind and dirt but the on-track action couldn’t be going any better. Q5 saw Jared Tebo, on M3 Hole Shots, try a new strategy of going the entire 10-minute qualifier without stopping for fuel and it worked! This saved him 7+ seconds and even allowed for a big crash where Jared couldn’t avoid a hidden crashed car in the back of the track. Ty Tessmann had a good run to get a 3 for the Round and Cody King continuing his good qualifying effort to get a 4. A few other Pro-Line guys like Neil Cragg, Dylan Rodriguez, Adam Drake, Tanner Stees and Joe Bornhorst all had great Top 16 runs for Q5! Read the rest of this entry »
Monday was the Final day of Practice at the 2016 IFMAR World Championships in Las Vegas and this day would be used for seeding the drivers into Qualifying which will happen over the next 3 days. It was also Opening Ceremonies and Pro-Line Team Picture Day! As you can see from the above picture, I believe the Pro-Line Team to be the largest team at the event full of the best drivers from all around the World! Read the rest of this entry »
