This past weekend the inaugural Can-Am RC Challenge for Charity race was held in the Seaway Mall in Welland Ontario Canada. It was a rousing success to say the least. The unique venue of racing in a large bustling shopping mall gave great exposure to the RC hobby in an all-new way. Many shoppers were able to witness top-level RC racing for the first time in their lives.
The 156 entries raced hard during the 3-day event in classes ranging Tamiya Mini and F1, to Vintage Trans Am as well as more traditional carpet on-road classes. The big winners were Jason Cramer, winner in 13.5 Foam Sedan, Wayne Vince winner and TQ in 10.5 World GT as well as 13.5 1/12th GTP class. Martin Crisp TQ’ed 1/12th GTP and went on the TQ and win 10.5 Rubber Sedan class as well.
An invitational Celebrity Race was held with a number of professional racecar drivers, local business owners and PROTOform’s own Dale Epp. Racing with Tamiya Mini’s, all the “celebrities” invited to race were actually holding an RC radio for the first time in their lives. Dale Epp slowly motored through the carnage to a 4th place finish.
The event was sponsored by Tamiya Canada, PROTOform Race Bodies, LRP, Reedy, APS/Speedmind RC and Orca Racing. A portion of every entry fee was donated to Niagara Children’s Center to aid their work with handicapped children
First, let me thank all the sponsors for this event. Every single participant acknowledged that this was a great series, and that the sponsor support put it over the top. This series saw plenty of new faces come out and participate, and have fun. This was one of the main goals from the start. This past weekend was the fifth and final event. It ended up very close, with the top 4 positions all up for grabs going into the final race. Overall winner (congratulations to Walt Gorczowski) ended up being decided by the tie-breaker. Check out the attached pdf file for all the results 2009_GT_Points_series
Personally, I was kind of out of the running from the start. I had two schedule conflicts, but the overall event success was the focus…not my personal results.
Thanks to Leisure Hour Raceway for building and maintaining a premium on-road facility, and for the super sweet trophies. Be sure to check out some of the attached pics, and just let me know if you’d like larger versions.
Again, thank for supporting onroad racing in the Midwest. For those of you attending the iHobby show here in a few weeks, see you there!
This past weekend at the 2009 Austrian National Gas On-Road Championships the PROTOform P909 and Michael Klausner took home the top spot. In the highly contested 200mm Touring Car sport class Christian Bartacek chose the DNA as his top performer to capture the win as well. A double victory for PROTOform.
The results are in and it’s official. PROTOform dominates the 2009 ROAR On-Road Fuel Nationals in Toledo, Ohio. Mugen’s own Mike Swauger takes the 1:8 crown using PROTOform’s P909 body.
PROTOform’s Paul Lemiuex takes top honors on the pole going into the main. His Stratus 3.1 body allowed him to be the fastest most consistent driver in qualifying and kept the qualifying streak alive with the top podium spot in the main.
Long time supporter of PROTOform and all-around fantastic guy Eli Ezrow showed his true colors in the Master’s class by matching Paul’s performance with¬†a TQ and win.
Out of the three A-mains  31 out of 38 drivers chose PROTOform and their body of choice. Passion and performance is what PROTOform is all about and the results speak volume to just that.
I’m a bit pushed for time – so I’ll just give you a couple of links to read. I couldn’t stay till the end of the event so I have no “winners” photos. I’m still searching.
It was a great event and a huge event – and PROTOform was used in ALL TQ’s and ALL wins! It was amazing. #1477 3.1 Status and #1504 P909. I’m guessing 80% of all bodies used were PF.
Scroll down to post #633 for photos and #634 for my “Congrats” post
