This weekend was a rather large turnout for a club race. With over 70 entries for a club race day, the 2 big classes were 4WD Super Stock (13.5), and 2WD Stock Buggy (17.5).

I decided to run SuperStock 4WD Buggy this weekend, with about 20 entries, locals, and a few from out of town, Houston, and San Antonio area, was going to be a good race.

I got to the track to do some testing, since I haven’t run the 4wd on the carpet for some time. Started with my starting setup, I ran some laps, got a baseline with lap times after some setup changes, and tire suggestions from Xray teammate Lance Myhre. I decided to try a set of Pro-Line Wedge Wide 2WD Z4 Front Tires on the front of some cut 4WD rims to see how they felt compared to the 4WD Wedge Z4 the times were improved with the narrow, but the car would become a little over responsive in the corners. I decided to stick with the narrow however, and adjust my driving to compensate.

My final Tire Choice was Pro-Line Pin Point Z3 in rear, and Wedge Wide 2WD Z4 in front. Read the rest of this entry »

This past Saturday was Round 4, final round of the Southern Summer Payout Series, which has traveled across 3 states in our division. Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Thornhill Racing Circuit has a new turf track, after weather destroyed the previous covered clay track. All new turf for everyone, the challenge would be how to handle the extreme rise in grip from the previous events.

It was the hottest day of the year this past Saturday, with temperatures reaching 106 degrees.

I used  Pro-Line Pin Point Z3 Rear, and Pro-Line Wedge Fronts. Read the rest of this entry »

ILER RACING- April 2017 Race Report

Club Race

Beachline Raceway – Cocoa, FL

We went to Beachline Raceway to get in some practice on the new track layout before round 3 of the Turf Wars next weekend. David had some bad luck and broke several parts including the front a-arm on his x-ray, the rear a-arm on his Yokomo, the end of his x-ray axle and 2 turn buckle ends. During the club race, he qualified 3rd and felt good going into the main. During his practice laps before the main he ended up breaking his turn buckle end and didn’t get to race.

I was the only one racing 2wd truck so they added me to the 4wd class. My truck was dialed and had all the power I needed with my #Trinity 9.5 Monster Motor. I qualified 2nd and was starting behind #Tony Nicotra. After the first couple of laps I made a pass on Tony taking over the number 1 spot. It didn’t last long as I landed on the top of Mount Fuji and popped my ball cup. Thank you to the turn marshal who got it popped back in for me. I lost about 14 seconds and dropped about 1/3 of a lap back. I started pushing hard and put together consistent laps one after another until I finally caught up to 2nd place and got a chance to pass him. I ended up only being 6 seconds out of 1st.

Turf Wars round 2 held at Beachline Raceway turned out to be a fun day full of close exciting racing. #Jeremy Mangus did an excellent job announcing and made sure the Mains started clean and if not he brought you back to do a restart.

We headed to Cocoa Friday night after work to camp out with some friends for the weekend. Saturday was open practice in the morning and I could try out my new 2WD SCT. We ended up having to make a few adjustments as it was traction rolling, but other than that it was dialed.

David is really pleased with his Yokomo Buggy powered by #Trinity. He took TQ in qualifying with 13/5:28.365. The Main was an exciting race between David and #Don Tech. At the beginning of the Main Don made a mistake that gave David a good lead, but each lap Don was reeling him in. It was around lap 11 where Don was given the chance to make the pass on David. At that time, we all thought it was over, but right before the last lap David made an awesome pass on the wall ride and took home 1st place by 0.35 of a second.

After a 3 hour ride we arrived Thursday night and started setting up camp. The track looked sick and we couldn’t wait to drive on it. Practice started at 12:00 Friday and we were in the first group on the drivers stand. Not many people were there yet so we got a lot of track time testing and tuning our cars. The track was technical and super fun.  A big shout out to Pro-Line Team Manager Brian Lewis who found a way to get our tires we needed to the track since he could not make it. Thank you to Brian Geist for stepping in and helping the Pro-Line Team all weekend.
