It’s been awhile since our last winner with the Holidays, so we chose 2 winners to make up for lost time. Congratulations to Joshua Holthus and Brian Touchton for winning the Reader’s Rides contest.
Title: Harley Stampede 4×4 Description: Traxxas Stampede 4×4 with Pro-Line 2.8″ Badlands mounted on Pro-Line 2.8″ Black Desperado rims. Body is a Pro-Line Ford F150 Raptor SVT that I painted in a Harley Davidson “theme”.
This past weekend Pro-Line opened its legendary test track in Banning, CA to the local Short Course crowd for some fun, food and the opportunity to meet the a few of the top RC drivers in the World. Over 100 different SC trucks made there way around the freshly prepared test track and everyone left the event full of tacos and pizza, a custom event T-Shirt, a bag of swag, tons of track time and a pair of M4 Blockade SC tires!
In anticipation of the event the Pro-Line track crew created a Short Course specific track that was fun, fast and challenging. The track featured a long straightaway with a tricky roller jump halfway that unsettled even the most experienced drivers, a huge bowl turn that was a blast at full throttle, a blown-out whoop section that led to a double jump, a truck swallowing roller section in the back corner and a massive stepped table top jump along the left fence line.
At the end of the day we held a SC Top Gun Battle Race between the Pros for bragging rights. The Pro Race included newly signed Pro-Line team drivers WC Cody King and Adam Drake, along with Ty Tessmann, Rhonda Drake, Scott Hughes and Pro-Line’s own Tim Clark and Gerardo Gonzalez. At the sound of the tone Rhonda Drake shot to the front and never looked back. Adam Drake made a push in the middle of the race to catch his wife and battle for the lead but he kept getting the wheel from the other trucks. At the finish line Rhonda Drake took the crown as the Pro-Line Top Gun Champion with Adam Drake finishing Second and Gerardo Gonzalez in Third (Note: the Top 3 all had 4×4 trucks while the others had 2wd trucks, LOL!). The Pros put on a great show of skill and fender banging action and everyone enjoyed watching how fast they made it around the track.
Our friend Buddy at Papaian Enterprises took some amazing pictures as well. So be sure to check them out here. Plus he makes it possible to order the ones you like in the size you want them.
Special thank you to the Cvengros family & friends who helped out with track maintenance and turn marshaling! You guys and gals are amazing and really made the day a special treat.

Alright guys and dolls.. Here is one last update for the SC Open House this Saturday.. If you did not make it in please come down and we will take your entry the day of the event..
The Hobby Plex held the 2012 Novak Offroad race January 7-8. Around 190 entries entered for the event. The air temps and track temps varied greatly throughout the day from 30 degrees F to 50 Degrees F. I competed in 17.5 2wd SCT, 17.5 Stadium Truck and 17.5 2wd Buggy.
The 17.5 Buggy class had the most competition at 36 entries for the Event. Saturday Qualifying Rounds 1 & 2 the track was warm and had great traction. I ran M4 Suburbs and P-L Closed Cell Foam on all my vehicles and they were planted to the track ! When Rd 3 came around the sun was down and the air temp dropped to the low 30’s and the track became slick. I stuck with the M4 Suburbs on SCT but went to an “Old Syle” M3 Square Fuzzie on Stadium Truck and the “New” M4 Square Fuzzie on the Buggy! The Square Fuzzie’s really let me push my car on the slick track with a very stable in control feeling! After Qualifying was over I was sitting TQ for 17.5 SCT and 17.5 Stadium Truck with a 3rd place in 17.5 2wd Buggy. The early start for the Mains on Sunday had low temps and I stuck with my super consistent M4 Square Fuzzie’s for the Buggy and M3 for Truck. After all the mains were finished up I swept 1st place in 17.5 SCT, 17.5 Stadium Truck and 17.5 2wd Buggy running Pro-Line tires and Closed Cell Foam inserts!
Welcome back the Square Fuzzie tire from the past with the same great traction with awesome tire wear!
Check out the ”totally tentacles” write up and shout out that our friends over at BigSquid RC posted up.
Some areas of the world are nice and sunny 12 months out of the year. Other places, like where the BSRC bash crew lives, the weather can get downright awful. After two straight weeks of rain and snow Cubby got tired of waiting for the off road tracks to dry up so he asked me to put the best street tires I could find on our Helion Dominus. After all, the parking lot right outside the BigSquid offices was bone dry, so why burn up perfectly good dirt tires?
My choice for best street shoes for any short course truck is very easy- Pro Line’s Street Fighters (about $20 a pair). The Street Fighters give excellent traction, look great, and last a long time.
The factory rims on the Dominus use the standard 12 mm hexes, but are a slightly different off-set than anything else on the market. Cubby would never allow stock rims, so I was ordered to find the best after-market rims available. After looking at virtually every rim on the market, I mounted the Street Fighters up to Pro Line Split Six bead-loc wheels (also about $20 a pair). These are the same offset as Slash 4×4 rims, and while they make your truck slightly wider than the stock Helion rims, they don’t cause any clearance problems and look great on the Dominus. An added bonus from the Pro Line bead-loc rims is not having to glue tires on, you simply tighten up the bead-locs and you are ready to rock.
